When I was 13 years old my family visited Yellowstone National Park. Wow, did it blow my mind! After several days of touring that amazing place, on our way out we drove through Grand Teton National Park. To that point our entire focus had been on Yellowstone, with Grand Teton barely an afterthought. But as we passed through it the scenery was amazing, including one particularly remarkable view that I've never forgotten. A place called Oxbow Bend.

As we rounded that bend, my brother Al and I screamed at our mom to stop the car. That freaked her out and she slammed on the brakes. Al and I jumped from the car and snapped a couple of pictures with the cheap cameras we could afford as teenagers. Heck, we could barely afford to have the film developed. But the pictures he and I took that day have always been among our favorites.

A few years ago I had a chance to return to that exact spot with better gear. As much as I like the resulting picture, and tried my best to capture what I saw, that view is simply larger than life. Grand Teton National Park is spectacular from one end to the other, but nowhere more so than the iconic view from Oxbow Bend.
